Day 3: Carmila Beach

Well the first thing you may notice is that I am now spelling Carmila Beach correctly (I was previously writing Camilla), it was only when we went for a drive and I saw the sign I realised my error! Whoops.

So we absolutely love it here, we would stay forever if there wasn’t a 72 hour limit.

Well about our first night in the camper – our bed (innerspring queen size) is so comfortable.  It is certainly ‘glam-ping’ not camping!

Finn’s bed on the other hand, remember the last post about Shan playing Lego and Craig stepping in to help?  Well it turned out to be an epic failure.  The plan was that the legs would come off the base for easy storage, the joiners were quite a tight fit in to the alloy, so Shan and Craig ground them down for easy dismantling.  Well they were so easy to dismantle that they didn’t actually stay on when the bed moved even the slightest.

Luckily we tested it by pushing it a bit before Finn went to bed, otherwise this post may have a story about a hospital visit!

Anyway all that aside we had a lovely dinner – spicy chicken wraps.  Then we lit the fire, Finn had his first taste of toasted marshmallows and loved them.

The fire was mesmerising,  certainly better than any TV show you could watch!

The tides here are HUGE, and the tide came in overnight so it was so nice to hear the water lapping nearby.  There are islands and reef off the beach so there are not waves perse.

This morning Shan got some great shots of the sunrise (I may have still been catching zzzzzz's).

This morning we went for a walk on the beach, Finn rode his bike on the hard sand, it has been such a lovely day.  A beautiful 24 degrees, much better than the 12 degrees we experienced the first day.

After lunch, and a failed attempt to get Finn to have a daytime sleep, we went out to some freshwater creeks to have a flick of a lure in the hope of landing a wild Sooty Grunter – clearly by the lack of fish photos and abundance of scenery pics we didn’t catch anything.  We did however meet a very cranky snake on our drive home.  After the picture was taken it turned to have a crack at the car!  The hide of it really, I mean we stopped so we didnt run it over and it still had a go.

Our plans this arvo are to have a cast of stick baits into the surf and see what we can come up with, tomorrow’s post will reveal all……

We are headed to Eungella Dam tomorrow for a couple of days, Shan has fished there before and is really excited to be able to show it to Finn and I.  The Kayak will get its first use of the trip.

So enough babbling today,

Shae, Shan and Finn

  1. Loved your babbling, and it sounds like a great trip so far! Don't forget to get yourself a card reader in the next big town.
