Day 4: Eungella Dam

So we obviously didn’t catch fish yesterday arvo either – otherwise we would be bragging by now!

We got up this morning and packed up the camper, we had an audience as our neighbours at Carmila Beach are keen on getting the same thing and wanted to see how easy it was to pack up.  They were really impressed with the rig, as are we!

We left Carmila and headed to Mackay to stock up on food etc, then headed West towards Eungella Dam.  We have been out this way together when we fished Teemburra Dam on our honeymoon in 2004, but aside from that only Shan has been here when filming on the Fishing DVD, so I was keen to see more of this area.

On the drive out we saw an Eagle on a fence post and dead set we reckon it would have been nearly as high as Finn.  There are so many Eagles up this way.  We would have photos, except when we were packing Shan said “surley I don’t need my long lens”, well um….I think the birds are giving Shan “the Finger”, because not only was the Eagle easy to photograph but so many other birds have been flaunting themselves at him.

After we saw the Eagle and stocked up on fire wood we went to the Pinnacle Pub for lunch, apparently they are famous for their pies, so of course we ordered steak….only kidding we got pepper pies and they were absolutely sensational.  The biggest feed, and the best pie I have ever had.

The line up for the pies even went out the door and to the front gutter!

After pigging out we came up to Eungella, and by up I mean UP, it is the steepest road and very windy, there is a lookout at the top, I am sure the photos don’t do it justice.  You really have to drive it to believe it.  There were even waterfalls on the side of the road, so so pretty.

Anyway, we are now at Eungella and it is truly beautiful, a different beautiful than Carmila Beach, I guess freshwater lakes are different from the ocean….

The view of Eungella from our Australian Off Road Camper!

It is so peaceful, though that may be due to the fact that we are here on a Sunday night, it is apparently really busy on weekends and long weekends with not only fishermen but also ski boats.

We are currently looking at the fire and Finn has just toasted his evening marshmallows and played with the sparklers, so it is nearly bed time for us all……at a very late 6:36!

This is a shot of marshmellow toasting at Carmila Beach, but it has become an evening tradition.

Till tomorrow

Shae, Shan and Finn

P.S. there is no phone or internet service at Eungella so therefore you will get this post and the next a day or two later than they were written.
