Well we set off this
morning, it was overcast but we were hopeful for good weather (hmmmmm, hope did
nothing!).
It basically rained
the whole way, it even hit 12 degrees and that was north of Gin Gin. And by
rain I don’t mean a sprinkle, I mean poured.
We had planned to stay
at the free camp at Calliope, however as we edged closer it was still really
wet. I decided to turn to my
trusty ‘Magic 8 Ball’ app on my iPhone, I asked “will the rain stop before we
get to Calliope?”, the 8 Ball replied “Move On”, and no I am not kidding
you! Even Shan thought I was
taking the piss when I told him, he only believed it when I showed him the 8
Ball response.
Suffice to say we made
an executive decision to go to Rockhampton and stay in a cabin for our first
night……We didn’t want the first night in the camper to be in the rain as it may
have “rained on our parade” (pardon the pun).
Ironically, our
decision to stay in a cabin to stay dry was also a failure. Lucky Shan and I have been together for
100 years cos I am sure it could have tested other couples!
We got to our
accommodation and were told to park the camper in a space beside the cabin,
imagine fitting a square block into a round hole!
We ended up getting
the camper – after many attempts on the car, as it is a really long rig, in the
drive, then put our wet weather gear on, un-hitched the camper and manoeuvred
it in place by hand, then once that was complete got the car in too (imagine
two cranky, cold and wet adults).
One would think that
is all you have to do, but NO… our food was in the kitchen and fridge of the
camper, so Shan and I yet again faced the rain to get our dinner supplies out.
Once we had a hot
shower and sat down to dinner Finn asked, “where is the sauce”, the reply
“there is NO sauce” (as it was in the camper and we were NOT prepared to get
wet AGAIN).
There are some photos
below, one being from when we were all rigged up ready to go, the second of
Finn and I supporting Shan on the drive, and the third of our wet clothes
hanging out to dry out!
So the plan tomorrow
is to head to Camilla Beach (a couple of hours away), we will fill you in when
we get there.
Shae, Shan and Finn
P.S. The weather is
supposed to fine up tomorrow :)
Shannon's support crew - obviously excited about the trip!
WET CLOTHES - need we say more?
Now that ain't livin....Xxx shaz xx
